As I am presenting the recording for Radio Santa Cruz this evening, it is time to shift from the analytical towards the imaginative mood. A particularly wholesome dream of mine last night, I thought, might just provide enough fulfilment to cover the swelling gaps of a vacant life for as long as the memories hold on.
2010 has been, it seems, a sad year for many people. My own sad story has been punctuated with glimpses of light. End-of-year epilogues are so hard to write, but in the light of some illuminating and wistful hopes and dreams that have consumed me recently, I’d like to share some meaningful pieces.
Despite largely avoiding Shakespeare at undergraduate level, I taught Hamlet to first-year undergraduates in a very nervous first term in Geneva. This 2009 production alerted me not only to the skills I have picked up since, but also a new sense of seeing theatre.
